So... here’s my hope

I’ve been silent and depressed for a bit. But, I thought I’d make a thread while drunk and traveling for work. Humor me.
I hope we finish the season well. I know there are a lot of people want Odom fired, and closing the season well hampers that. But, I want a strong finish.
If Odom stays, I hope he proves himself and we have upward movement in results. I don’t know the likelihood, but that’s what I’d want. Realistically, everyone that was high on Odom was night for the same reason. A coach that succeeds and loves the school gives stability. That’s what I want for Mizzou. A good coach and stability and success (duh right).
I also want Odom to go if he doesn’t reach a bowl this year. I like Odom. I think he’s a good guy, with a good head on his shoulders. I think he’s the kind of person I’d want as HC for the long term if successful. But if he can’t make it happen with this schedule, I don’t know when he will.
I don’t think this team is as talented on defense as some others feel. I think they lost a lot that they didn’t replace. I also think part of that is Odom’s fault. This is his chance to improve.
That’s all

Of course it's best for us if Odom succeeds.
My fear is, some people have already made up their minds and won't support him no matter what.

Pretty well said.
I was going to write a response, but it ended up too long in my head, so MIZ....
I hope to see you at the ZOU on Saturday.

If he wins, they’ll support him.
This season is fricked. Even if he wins this season, he won’t get support. He has to sow consistency for it to be anything. But, that’s to be expected of any coach.
If he bowls this year, the expectation is higher next year. As it should be.
Like I said, I like Odom. I’m not convinced he’s where he needs to be. But, I want him to be successful here. I don’t want a coach that’s looking to for a stepping stone to something else.
Mizzou will always be a challenge for any coach.

This will always be the truth. Babs Uehling made sure of that.

Once upon a time support and respect were earned not blindly given.
If and when BO wins consistently, more and more will support him.... That's how it works.
With 4 games left of his second season he has yet to prove he's HC material.
That's a year or two away....... If he stays

Well said. I think everyone would agree with what you said. The fear/concern is that we all would have said the same thing about KA too.

I think you're wrong on that as to a vast majority of people. Most would support him or anyone that can get the job done. The problem so far is that he is light years away from getting the job done.
I don't know BO so I have no personal grudge against him or reason to want to see him fail. The opinions I express and concerns I have are based on what has happened on and off the field. Not because of who BO is.

I think BO will be a very good head coach, but he’s still learning. I think he needs a DC, new secondary coaches special teams coach and LB coach. He has to learn to be more of a CEO and delegate responsibility and learn to trust those coordinators and position coaches. I think that’s tough for him because just a year and a half ago he was one of those defensive coaches, and a very good one. I think he feels like when things are going bad, (like they have been) he needs to be the main guy in all facets. But I really do think if he would hire a hot shot DC in the offseason, like he should have done last December, with a couple position coaching changes, we would be fine. If we had just a top 40 defense, we’d win a lot of games.

I just think it's awful hard to go from DIAF to that's my coach!
It's very hard for most people to admit they were wrong.
I hope if he starts winning he gets the support he deserves, but I'm skeptical

Winning = support..... What's so hard to grasp?
Stop with this poor BO BS... When and if he wins the support will be there.
Until then. MAYBE turn the pump down.
That drives as many away then BO himself

I am not an anti BO guy and would love to see him be successful because that would mean Mizzou was being successful....buutt...this is starting to smell a lot like Kim Anderson 2.0. I have been willing to give BO a little extra slack because I realize that he is learning to be a head coach OJT in the SEC; but, up to this point in time and for the most part; his teams do not pass the eyeball test. It's not simple wins and losses; but how those wins and losses have looked that concern me.

We'd need to discuss the % over several adult beverages....pretty sure we'd be shitfaced before we ever came to an agreement
Oh yeah

I think wiBO will be a long time head coach in D1 football. The only issue, and its mizzous fault, I dont think thats for a few more years.

Yep, 5 wins or less with this schedule...hit the pavement. I'm worried Sterk will keep Odom with 5 wins.
With 6 wins, I'll jump back on the train and eat my crow. Hope to see ya in Bir-ham or Shreve. I'm not betting on this one.
Keeping Odom with 4 wins or less, Sterk is not the "man" that I thought we have. I'd be highly disappointed and wonder if Sterk/Odom are gonna prove me wrong.
