The SEC Coaching Carousel

Let’s say Mizzou decides to hitch a ride on the carousel at the end of the season.
I see some other SEC teams getting on as well.
- Tennessee
- Arkansas
- Ole Miss
- Florida (Maybe)
- aTm (Maybe)
- Vandy (Maybe)
Chances are good that not all of these spots open up, but for sure Arkansas and Tennessee will be open.
As much as I’d like to move on from the BO era, I’m not sure who you can replace him with given the possible openings in the conference.
Mizzou would rate below everyone of the teams I’ve listed except Vanderbilt.
If BO does go, I certainly wouldn’t expect a “splash hire”.

Don't expect a splash hire anyway. That's not who we are. We'll always be taking at least somewhat of a chance. It is what it is, hopefully we hit if it comes to that.
Florida is looking pretty likely to open now as well. Although, I think they are going to find it fairly difficult to hire a big time name.

Florida should never have a hard time making a big hire.
That’s some fertile recruiting ground, even with FSU and Miami instate.
Our best hope is that Les Miles can come in here and get things stabilized. However, it would smell a lot like Larry Smith to me, in essence, don’t plan on keeping him around too long. Just long enough to right the ship.

I would take a hard pass on Miles. He had future NFL players all over his offenses at LSU and they were still bad offensively.
If he would have been willing to evolve offensively, Miles would still be at LSU.

Hell no on Miles.
Florida is a great job, but you just fired a guy 1 year removed from back to back trips to Atlanta. That's going to be a very tough sell, and I usually don't put too much stock into that line of thinking.

Not really

I’m not crazy about the idea, but I think it would be about as “splash” as it gets, Gruden certainly ain’t walking through that door.
I don’t think a flashy up and coming coach would take the job either.
It doesn’t leave us in a good position, which is why I think BO returns regardless of how he finishes up the season.

Explain?
Maybe things look better than they do from my vantage point, but if I’m a coach I’d definitely prefer Arky or Tenner over our situation.
Ole Miss not so much for obvious reasons, I’m not sure they’ll look for a coach given the coming sanctions. They’ll probably be in limbo for a minute.

I think Mizzou is ahead of Arkansas, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Tennessee isnt the draw it once was but is still ahead
Florida and aTm are clearly ahead of Missouri.

That's the thing about sports. You've got at least 60 programs willing to spend millions to crack the top 10. Most of the fans are going to be unhappy every year.
I'd take Miles if he didn't have a 7 year contract with a huge buyout. I'm guessing Sterk is aware of all this. And there is a chance BO may get another year because we don't have another great option. That's how we got him in the first place.

The only reason I think Arky is any a better place is facilities. Beyond that, it’s probably pretty even.
Hopefully, if Sterk does make a move, he gets a guy that can unite the fanbase and bring in more donations to close the facilities gap.
Missouri has always been its own worst enemy when it comes to the football program. That’s got to change soon.

The first domino falls.
This should get the carousel going pretty quickly. I doubt Butch is on the sidelines when we play Tennessee.

I think tennessee will be more attractive thean florida. Butch jones has had 5 mediocre to bad seasons mcilwaine had 1. More pressure in florida. Same goes for aTm. But all three are above us.

He gone. Auburn was the only game he could lose and he lost to State at home by 21. We might go 6-6. He. Gone.

I'm going to guess
Florida- Scott Frost
aTm- Chad Morris
UT- PJ Fleck

My humble opinion:
Frost to Nebraska...P.J. won't leave Minnesota after just one year.

Maybe, I just want UT to hire Fleck so bad I can taste it.

He would be crazy to go to Nebraska over Florida.
Florida is in the middle of a prime recruiting ground.

Florida would also fire him two years in if he doesn't have a NC already.
Goes from hot coaching name to guy that just got fired.
He'd have a much longer leash at Nebraska and a very weak division to deal with.
