Because, AND I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT THIS, NEED A TENNESSEE LAWYER TO CONFIRM, we're a state university, the job has to be posted for a minimum of 14 days before we can announce a hire, unless there are exceptional circumstances, like in 2010. But in that situation, the job was vacant because Kiffin quit, not because we fired him. We may also be required to interview at least 1 minority candidate.
If that's the case, the earliest we could announce the new coach is the day after the Vanderbilt game.
Again, I could be wrong, but that would be a legitimate reason.
