If ND got in with an 11-1 record over 12-1 teams (or 12-0) that would get them completely off the hook from ever being required to join a conference in football.

It prob. would be you couldn't argue that wins with their only loss coming to a UGA team that could be undefeated going into the SECCG. The jury is still out on how good MSU will be by the end of the season but they are currently ranked. Follow that by a win against a top 15 NC State team. NC State is a team that really doesn't have any big wins nonetheless they are still playing good. If they did beat NC State and NC State beats Clemson then that win will look a hundred times better considering NC State would be in the ACCCG bearing no epic melt down. If they beat Miami in a few weeks and Miami is undefeated, then that will be a very good top 10 team. Follow that by beating Stanford at the end of the season in which Stanford could be a top 25 team and maybe a top 10 or 15 team if they beat WSU and Washington. So there is a possibility that those three wins could be against eventual conference championship participates. So...I can see the committee putting them in without playing a conference championship.
