It's been a long time since I was in GA but there are some common things.
If he wasn't a total a-hole it may help to call the officer and ask if there is anything he can do to consider reducing this - or better yet have your son call if you think he can pull it off. I seem to remember you could plead nolo to a lesser offense but that was a long time ago. If he says no be polite and move to step 2.
Find a local attorney...they probably know each other. Call around until you find a guy that seems to know what they're doing.
Edit: call the traffic court and when you get the clerk tell them your son got a ticket and need to find out who does a good job lawyering in town...or who's in there all the time. Be contrite and concerned. Remember these folks do this all day so its just business as usual to them...not personal.
