I don't think there's one way, but I will say we've been eating up defenses with our midline dive this year

I'm one of the few who prefers to build the entire game plan against triple option dive.

Between the B Back and the QB following the BBack, that might be 20 snaps a game where I like my chances of winning if I can keep those under 2 yards.

Im the guy who wants the pitch. I'm the guy who wants the defense to try and string the ball carrier out to the sideline.

I know that is where the home runs come for your offense. But I will gladly take my chances with our team speed trying to use the sideline as the 12th defender.

ALWAYS make the QB pitch. More chance of a mishandled ball.

And if your guys are disciplined you will have help on the outside. You are correct in the way you would play an option offense.

Stopping the option requires a sound plan where everybody plays their responsibility.

At the most basic level the interior lineman will squeeze to the dive and ILBs will step, fill, and tackle to stop the dive as well.

DE will play QBs. OLBs can play QB to pitch.

CBs are pitch and Safeties in the alley QB to pitch.

The times are a changin' but this was the way I was taught to defend the option. You can't get lulled to sleep because the one time you make a mistake and not take your responsibility you get gashed.
