Yeah I think somehow Dabo pressed him with the hard sell. "Being a man is about commitment", "we want you to be all in", "God wants you to play at Clemson", etc...
Found this golden nugget over on CT:
I like to think that Dabo says it like this:

Lets be realistic. No ones getting the death penalty now days.
Penn State (yes I know not an "NCAA rule" but tell me hiding that didn't hide their public image for a while) just got off with a slap to the wrist)
Nothing will happen if we throw a kid a Benz, PS4 and Yeezys.
