Dude should have been gone last year.

This is Sterk's first move and a notification he's not fricking around if he doesn't see improvement IN CONFERENCE.

Who cares about winning our terrible OOC games. The improvement will be SEC competition or more heads will start rolling.

Sterk doesn't wanna be embarrassed after all the $$$ he's brought in. Empty stadiums will embarrass him.

You're right, and I don't feel bad for Cross. He was a failure and paying a guy DC money to coach inside LBs was never going to fly.

I'm just surprised to see this done now. Not the way we normally operate.

I just wish they would have done it in the offseason and brought in an experienced DC to shoulder that load. Now, what do you do? Can you even make a hire a mid season? Who is out there that is worth a damn?

Does Chizik still want to coach? Does it even make sense to bring in someone else at this point?

I'm going to guess there was some serious head butting between Odom and Cross.

Odom is feeling the heat

If this is true and the season really takes an epic downward turn, Odom could seriously lose his job after the season.

Any chance Cross called and ran the defense in the first half against MSU?

Defense seemed to be far from the biggest issue.

I'm guessing it didn't matter what their relationship was. Barry probably doesnt feel like he had a choice.

Next up: special-teams consultant.

BTW: The entire university is in upheaval. People are getting fired left and right. Right now it's political. Next up: money moves. Then shock when it doesn't work.

It's just my guess. Sterk's firing of KA and hiring of Martin and the buzz of his recruiting class tells me Sterk has no patience for incompetence. No fear of firing true sons.

He's a fundraiser. Big time. shite FB products will eventually kill or at least slow everything down.

Doubt he wants to go out like our last AD.

I have no inside information, but I don't think Sterk was the man here. Something other than Cross not doing the job happened. I listened to all of BO's interviews after Saturday, and he was pissed about something...something more than just the loss to SC! I'm guessing, and guessing only, that BO and .Cross had some words that may have got ugly either during, or immediately after the game!
Once again, this is just speculation, but I don't think .Sterk will poke his nose into this until after the season is over. Something else happened....

Gabe is reporting that it wasn't "on field performance " so you could be on to something.

I didn't understand why he wasn't fired after last season. We were paying DC money but the HC was acting as the DC while he coached inside LB's. Why didn't BO hire a real DC in the offseason to allow himself to focus on being a HC instead of being a HC and DC. Another flaw of BO in my opinion.

The same reason K was fired before Odom was hired.
