Seriously, folks today have no idea how far we have come with painkillers in the last 50 years. Now they zap you with some knockout drug and you wake up in the recovery room and still doped with some happy juice so if you have pain, you can't feel it.

People are rarely as honest as they are in the few minutes after I wake them post procedure...
