When New England Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower went down with a knee injury during the opening game of the NFL season on Thursday night, it seemed as though the defending Super Bowl champion's preseason plan for the former Alabama All-American had been for naught.
Hightower was a Pro Bowl selection last season, has helped the Patriots win two NFL championships in the past three years and serves as a defensive captain for New England. But he's played the entire schedule once in his five seasons in the league.
