I'm looking at statistics and I'm not liking what I see from Jimbo. His total defense fell after his National championship year and never recovered. His total offense isn't any better than Sumlin's either.
I haven't looked at efficiency and scoring defense/offense. But so far, not liking what I'm seeing.

He's won at the highest level, averages over 10 wins a year and went 27-1 with his transcendent player. Sumlin went 20-6 with his.
His win totals without Winston are 10, 9, 12, 10, 10 and probably 6. Sumlin's without Manziel are 8, 8, 8 and probably 7.

The bottom line is you're either hiring an up and comer or an established coach. Among established coaches, he's the only one available with multiple P5 conference titles and a national title.
There isn't a more proven candidate available. If that's the type you're aiming for, he's the best option. His resume is bested only by Dabo, Meyer and Saban among active coaches.
