As long as you have several healthy DTs that can blow it up you should be fine.

VOLS have such a talent advantage that we should handle them. Defense may struggle at times, but I am confident we will put up points.
On the other hand, you never know what to expect when Botch trots out that tunnel. I will be ready to fire up the "Coaching Search Hot Board" if we lose. Either way, I look forward to the results

For some reason, I'm not even worried about this game. Nothing against GT or maybe it's I don't have a ton of expectations. I do think this under the radar, no respect thing has fueled the off-season. I'm a little worried about LBer but I actually think Jumper can play well vs. GT. I mean, he's not going to over pursue or over run the dive play or any play, amirite?

My hope is that year 2 of the Shoop Defense is going to be drastically different than what we saw in year 1. He put together some really good defenses at Vandy with much less talent than will be on the field Monday.

They are a very dangerous team. It helps that you've had several months to prepare for their offense. As much as I hate Paul Johnson the dude can coach and scheme against any defense. I'd be more worried about losing at least one DL to a knee injury. They are some cut blocking SOBs.

Year two is where you find out if someone is legit or not. Kids start to play faster because they understand how the D is supposed to run.

I find it hard to believe that the guy just lucked into his highly touted Ds at Vandy and Penn.

This is my thoughts as well

Little to no concern about this one.
Expect VOLS to win pretty easily but a loss means we are in for a clusterfrick of a season which in some ways could be more enjoyable.

Sorry, I'm not saying he's a bad coach, just that some in your fan base had sky high expectations of him.

With his resume and what they are paying him we should have very high expectations of him

Oh I wasn't taking offense just stating that I think last year was an anomaly and that hopefully this year is more in line with his previous stops.

I will say this...it is an advantage to play them in the first game (when you have all Summer to prepare). Here is how they have done in openers against FBS opponents in the past:
2016 - Boston College - Won 17-14. BC held GT to 238 total yards on offense (119 rushing yards on 44 caries...2.7 ypc)
2012 - Virginia Tech - Lost 20-17. VT held GT to 192 yards rushing on 55 carries (3.5 ypc).
That is it...since 2008 (when Paul Johnson took the job at Georgia Tech), they have only faced an FBS opponent in their season opener twice. In all other years, they have opened against FCS competition.
Tennessee has opened against an FCS opponent once in the last 5 years (Austin Peay in 2013).

Most P5 schools have a major talent advantage over them. Their style of O keeps them in the game and they get better as the game goes on. You need a 2 td lead at half to feel comfortable.
