I can easily see transferring there as a much more viable option than playing for a team lost in the wilderness

Dude - most of the rest of CF, even in power 5 conferences, IS the "wilderness" compared to the SEC...even Missouri, Kentucky, Vandy, etc. Please get that straight... there is nothing to be gained for any player by playing for ... say ... Iowa State rather than Ole Miss, even an old Miss on probation. Furthermore, who said they are going to be in the wilderness? YOU DID... my point was NO THEY ARN'T...they may not have the depth to compete for a championship (but they weren't really that competitive on that level before anyway). But they will not be "bad."

Sorry my friend, but if you think that, it just proves my previous point about inherited gene failure being responsible for lack of imagination. I recommend get over the famous SECr group think and consider the problem with fresh eyes. Ciao

Jack, they are going to have to be dead right on every player they bring in because there will be no room for recruiting mistakes. They can't suffer from any "normal" attrition while on probation because depth will be paper thin for years. They can't have a coaching carousel in any phase or that just adds another nail to the coffin. They basically have to get every evaluation dead on, get them to campus, develop them and get them to stay for their full duration to have any chance to compete in this conference.

Sorry, I just don't see how they can get better or even stay "as is" in the wake of scholarship cuts, recruiting/evaluation cuts, AND the inability to use the inducements they've used in the past to get interested recruits to visit and sign on with OM.
