chickens will eat wood shavings covered in their own poop. I think this guy could have done better than $1.25 a day...

Chickens will eat pebbles too. He could definitely do it for cheaper that $1.25/day. The pebble trick has been used by chicken farmers for decades to make their birds weigh more the day if slaughter.
