I don't think it's a big deal. Guys get frustrated, especially at o-line and QB where there is no rotation in season.

It was just frustration with Boulware getting some work ahead of him late last week when he feels he is the best option. I think it was the same thing with the handful of guys a couple years ago.

Jones is better than Boulware right now from everything I've heard but at times coaches go with other factors when you are dealing with the borderline guys. Smith, Robertson, Richmond and Kendrick are your clear top 4 guys right now and that leaves Jones/Boulware/Tatum/Thomas in an uncertain spot which is tough for these kids.

Tatum is definitely going to get a shot and I don't think Thomas has much of a shot at all. That leaves Jones/Boulware in a dogfight for the starting LG spot and significant PT going forward depending on how Tatum does at tackle.

Thanks for the explanation. That's far more reality driven than anything VN was pushing.

As for Boulware... I think Jones is better or at least was last season. I understand starting Kendrick but he's not my favorite -- really seems that with Smith at RG and Kendrick at RT they're wanting to run behind that side and think those two can work well together.

What I don't understand about LG is why put Boulware beside Richmond with Richmond still having a bit of a learning curve at LT? The only knock I've heard on Jones that might answer that is that he wasn't quite as strong as he needed to be last season.

Tatum needs to see the field more but I have no idea where they put him except in rotation if you have Richmond and Kendrick holding down OT with Smith at RG. You think they're going to give him a shot at LG? I mentioned that upthread that I thought Tatum could snag that spot, especially if they're willing to put Smith at RG, but haven't heard much on it.

Another note while we're on the topic of the o-line is how differently Richmond is viewed under Wells than Mahoney. Mahoney was done with him by mid season last year and Wells took him under his wing and was really responsible for the huge jump he took from App State/Va Tech to Nebraska.

If Mahoney had been retained I think Richmond would be elsewhere.
