PAC 12 and UT is close as a perfect fit as you can get in a way.

UT belongs with Oklahoma and Texas A&M. The PAC 12 isn't adding either of those.

UT doesn't belong with Aggy.

Aggy is the red headed step child of Texas. Aggy is a representative of old Texas. Oil and agriculture.
Since the 1990's the state has diversified.

There a correlation between heavy investment into the economy and good football teams.
For example Florida in the 1980's. The 3 Florida schools became good in football when the economy in Florida grew.
When the state of Texas began to diversify in the 90's UT began to win and win big.

Thing is the areas that Texas wants to grow the economy in comes from California and the Tech sector. Austin has become a little San Jose in regards to the similarities between the Silicon Valley and Austin.

Stanford is the main engine behind the Tech sector and UT is second behind Stanford in micro electronic engineering.

UT will do what is best for Texas and best for the future of Austin and the state.

OU will follow Texas' lead because OU knows without Texas recruits Oklahoma is just another Arkansas
