I still think the 01 team was the best offense UF ever had. Spurrier has even said that 01 was his best team and they didn't win anything but an Orange Bowl trophy.
Grossman was a monster at QB that year. Gaffney was great at WR and Spurrier was dialed in with his play calling. While it may have been his best team overall it's hard to imagine it was better than a team with Wuerffel, Anthony, Hilliard, J Green and Fred Taylor.

I think this was the year that the viewing audience in New Orleans missed the 1st quarter of a top-5 UT / UF game because WWL wanted to show the end of the crappy Ole Miss / crappy Vanderbilt game.

Let me run this one by you Prof. Let's say UF gets that 2 point conversion. I think that would of been one of the classic over times of college football. Both defenses were gassed. UF couldn't stop the run and Grossman and the offense finally got the offense going in the 4th. I believe Spurrier figured out what Chavis was doing on the last 2 drives. I think that would of been some type of 78-76 type of offensive classic if that goes to overtime.
Totally agree. That game would've gone on forever. I don't know if Chavis would've adjusted or not -- he was having a game like Stephens. Hell if Chavis had been like that all the time he'd be an all time great DC.
Even as it stands, that was one of the greatest CFB games ever played. Two outstanding teams battling it out. It was total war (the way football ought to be). I honestly think it's a classic game that should be rated one of the best.
And rivalry aside, it really is too bad that someone had to lose that game. UT and UF played a lot of games like that but this one was probably the best all around football game we ever played against each other.

Damn that sucks. The '01 game is classic - two great teams engaged in total war. The talent we had (and I mean both teams) was insane.

Yeah if that game goes to overtime, it comes down to which team had a better strength and conditioning program imo.

No doubt about that. Both teams probably would've passed out when it was time to shake hands and say good game.
