We saw what happens to the best D in the conference when they play a decent passing QB with Alabama the last three years.

The catch is that Clemson wasn't just an offensive football team. Their final total defense rankings in the last two seasons were 8th and 10th. Ohio State was 19th in 2014. In those cases, the team with the better offense has a good chance of winning the game.

As you pointed out, Alabama is 1-2 playoff games against teams with prolific offenses and good or better defenses but that's not the Big12. In the last three years, the entire Big 12 conference has had ONE team (TCU 2014) finish the season with a top 25 defense.

The numbers speak for themselves. You could potentially argue that regular season matchups could skew if a lot of SEC teams were scheduling Kansas for homecoming, but the disparity is greater in the bowl games. They play good offense, but they play really, really terrible defense. When they face teams that play good defense and reasonable offense they almost always lose.

Hence the question mark on Stidham. Will he be able to play at near the same level he did in his short time at Baylor or will he turn into JJ-Junior? One path leads to playoff contention and the other leads to a coaching search. We won't know the answer until mid October.

While playing one good team in the ACC each year.

It's not Auburn, either. Alabama's offense, even with a quarterback that hadn't learned to read defenses or hit a wide receiver in stride, ran pretty roughshod over Auburn last year.
