I don't think I'd ever live in Louisiana or Mississippi.
The older I get, the more small-town I get, but I want somewhere not oppressively hot and with a pretty landscape. If money were no object, maybe A30, in one of the nicer places there, or along SW Florida, Captiva, etc.
Apart from that, maybe E. Tennessee or North Georgia.
I have similar feelings as I age. I was born and raised in Dixie, but I'm at the point where I have had enough heat and humidity. Kind of wished my family had gone West back in the day. Actually if it weren't for my family being down here, I would have gone West myself.
I know tastes differ, but to me the perfect climate is the Pacific Coast north of Monterrey. You can keep your sunshine, I want my blessed 70 degree low humidity days. I've never felt so at home and comfortable as I did there.
Only... SJW's you know. If they could all be convinced to emigrate... well we'd have something.
Never really cared for the Southwest or California south of Monterrey.
As for places in the south... can't remember if Paducah, KY is right by the Mississippi, or what the extreme summer or winter climate is like.
But that is the most gorgeous countryside I personally have seen. Loved it.

Actually South of Monterey is much better
The on shore flow makes Monterey very cool at night even in the middle of the summer. As bad as San Francisco. Not to mention the wind if you get into the Salinas Valley
You need jackets and sweaters after 4 pm.
Perfect climate is actually Santa Barbara or SLO county.
Pismo or Grover Beach is probably as close to heaven you will find climate wise

PS, was thinking about this some more.
Could never live in East Tennessee. They have "Death Chiggers." I only got issued one num-num, and I don't want to scratch it off.
Don't know what the difference is, but when you cross the mountains from North Carolina, they become virulent, like they crawled off of Satan.
