There wasn't really one after it, either. The playoff is the first system we've had that didn't rely on the wire service polls.

Instead, it relies on the subjective evaluations of a handful of committee members to choose 4 teams that get to play for the "title."

It's all about hype and TV revenue.

Unless CFB goes to a NFL-type playoff, with playoff spots based strictly on objective win-loss criteria, it's still a subjective MNC.
