The funny thing is all those that want to remember Petrino as some water walker. LSU and BAMA both owned his arse. The big Sugar Bowl year? They both hammered us by like 24 points each.
Then we went to New Orleans and didn't even show up for the first half against an Ohio State team that we were better than.
There were some really fun games. The offense was high risk/high reward and we had Mallet with some incredible receivers...but we really weren't as good as some want to remember.

We were beaten by 24 the Cotton Bowl year. Which, to be fair, was LSU's best team in history, and the team that beat LSU's best team in history. The Sugar Bowl year we lost to Alabama by 4 and beat LSU.
Petrino wasn't some unearthly being, especially looking at his mediocre Louisville record the past three years. In the easier ACC, he keeps winning 8 and 9 games. That could have easily been the case here after 2011. But he accomplished a good deal at a school that's very tough to win at in a small time frame. It's hard not to wistfully look back. I just remind myself that he wasn't untouchable and was going to frick up in some way sooner or later. We got a huge stability upgrade in Bielema, I'm just afraid the ceiling is nowhere near as high.

quote:wat. That was 2010, we beat LSU and should have beaten Alabama. In the other loss we played superbly well with a backup QB against the Cam Newton Auburn team, but couldn't keep up. If not for Cam Newton, we would have won the SEC championship that year.

After this past season, I still care but have lost a lot of confidence in Coach Bielema. The 56-3 loss to Auburn was a tough one to bear but the manner in which we lost to Missouri...? Damn!!!
Basketball season was a pleasant surprise.
