I have a question on this topic. I have a small side yard on one side of the house which is mostly in the shade--we're talking about 10 yards by 25 yards. It has a moderate slope and I really want to get some grass growing on it this Spring. Do I get some dirt hauled in and then level it up to plant it? Also, I didn't want the dirt to wash away so I'm guessing I may need a retaining wall or some kind of support for the sod which would be on the downhill side? It's pretty much just rocks with very little grass right now.

That perfectly describes both sides of my house.

ETA-

Can anyone recommend a good concoction for a spray-and-rinse for removing mildew from shaded vinyl siding?
