Justin Watkins, 4-star WR, East Ridge (Clermont, Fla.)

Justin Watkins, one of the top wide receivers in the country, is down to Alabama and LSU. He’ll make his commitment on Jan. 4 at the Under Armour All-America Game.

I confirmed with a source close to Alabama that Watkins does, in fact, have a committable offer. I then asked if that meant one of the Tide’s top wide receiver targets — Jacob Copeland, Jaylen Waddle and Justyn Ross — doesn’t have a spot. It was learned that they all can commit whenever they want.

The numbers will work out. If Alabama landed all of those receivers, I would venture to guess that numbers at another position group would be cut or a current commitment would be pushed out.

I haven’t spoken with Watkins since he visited Tuscaloosa in July, but I know he was extremely high on the Tide back then. This will be his first visit since the summer.

Trey Dean, 4-star S, Dutchtown (Hampton, Ga.) — committed to Tennessee

Trey Dean has remained committed to Tennessee throughout the chaos surrounding the program. The Tide would like to add one safety to the 2018 class, and Dean does have a committable offer, a source confirmed.

Dean camped at Alabama this summer and was a standout. He surprised many when he committed to the Vols.
