What WR Matthew Hill's commitment means for Auburn (AL.com)
quote:

The month of August is now a dead period in college football recruiting (meaning no visits), but Aug. 17 was a lively date for the Auburn Tigers.

Matthew Hill, one of the top offensive targets on the board, announced his commitment to the Tigers over Alabama and South Carolina.

For Hill, it was a matter of when, not if. Every pick in the 247Sports crystal ball had Hill picking Auburn. He grew up an Auburn fan. The fit is natural.

WHAT AUBURN IS GETTING: If you watch the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Hill's highlights, you notice his instincts and physicality for having a rather wiry frame, not to mention his speed. The 185 pounds could be generous, but the good weight will come.

Hill just finds the ball, either at its highest point or as defensive back. He has long arms and wins the ball in traffic. He does need to add a little bit more strength to play snap after snap, but the frame is there.

WHAT IT MEANS: Hill joins Hoover receiver Shedrick Jackson as commits in this class for the Tigers. Look for the Tigers to likely add two more, with the top target being Central-Phenix City's Justyn Ross. A spot will be held for him unless he tells Auburn he's not coming. Cottondale receiver Seth Williams is also being recruited hard by the Tigers.

The next scheduled commitment announcement for an Auburn target is on Aug. 24 as Austin running back Asa Martin is choosing between Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and Florida.

4-star Hill commits to Auburn (Rivals)
quote:

Auburn has added another wide receiver to its 2018 commitment list.

Matthew Hill, a four-star recruit from Brookwood in Snellville, Ga., announced Thursday night on Twitter his intentions to sign with Auburn.

"After a long process, I've decided to commit to Auburn University," Hill told Rivals.com. "I fit in, it feels like home and Auburn has always been a dream school for me."

Hill, who is 6-foot-1 and weighs 185 pounds, chose Auburn over his two other finalists, Alabama and South Carolina.

"It was a hard decision," Hill said. "My decision was made from my heart."

Hill is familiar with Auburn. He has visited the Tigers’ campus several times, including trips to the two main recruiting events of the summer: Big Cat in June and the Cookout in July. Hill also attended Auburn’s Junior Day in January and A-Day game in April.

“I’m very comfortable at Auburn,” Hill said in June. “I grew up an Auburn fan so I’ve been comfortable there since I was a little kid.”

Hill is the second receiver to commit to Auburn’s 2018 class. He joins Hoover’s Shedrick Jackson, who committed to the Tigers in June. Auburn now has a total of 12 commitments in the class.

"I'm glad to say that I'm an Auburn Tiger," Hill said. "War Eagle!"

Hill's primary recruiter from Auburn is wide receivers coach Kodi Burns.

Rivals ranks Hill the No. 22 athlete in the 2018 class and No. 32 player from Georgia.
