That was Saban, IMO.

You really think Kiffin wanted to run that BS offense? fricking QB designed runs on 3rd and long? I don't think so.

Saban influenced him. Saban knew his defense was amazing, and once they got up by a score or two, they could just freeze the game, instead of risking a true freshman QB throwing the ball on long down and distances. Just like the LSU game.

Yes, they won games. But at the same time, they stunted Hurts' growth and didn't allow him to develop at all. Also didn't let him gain too much confidence throwing the ball in important situations.

Alabama's defense was great, but maybe it was TOO great. It allowed their mediocre offense to skate by all season. Until they faced a team with a dynamic offense that could score on their dominant defense. Then we saw the result.
