Coach Saban has made it clear that our future at qb is the duel threat guy. Hurts has 2 or 3 more years and our high profile recruitment of Tua confirms this. But is this the right direction? History says No. We won the title with McEleroy, 2 with McCarron and another with Coker. We fell short with Simms and Hurts. Maybe it's just because I prefer to watch a pro style offense that I feel we are more effective this way. Spare me the " it doesn't matter what you think post, Saban is in charge", I'm just trying to get some football talk going since there was so much criticism of Hurts passing. Any one else wishing we would go back to pro style?

as a defensive guy NS knows the hardest team to prepare for has been the ones who had a dual threat QB that does the RPO's. Look at the teams that have beaten him and the type of QB. So I think this is the natural evolution. Many HS's are running this and the best Athlete is playing QB.

I would like a return to the impose our will running game combined with a QB that can run. I think a duel that guy would thrive like never seen before under those conditions. Defenses can only prepare for so much.

In other words:

1. Run first. Make it known we will hammer teams. Fast ball.

2. Stack the box? Fine pass to make them pay. Nothing there, QB's legs take what they can get. Change up.

3. In between situations? That is the defense's problem to plan for. Curve ball.

It could be devastating doing what Bama has always been known for and then having more than one go to pitch.

I think Saban would love a pocket passer that is very mobile. But we aren't getting them for whatever reason. He may figure it's easier to coach up a mobile guy than to hope for a statue QB to all of the sudden get good feet. And a mobile QB can help offset some of your OL problems.

McElroy passed for 58 yards in the NC...

McCarron

Was the best QB in Alabama history, arguably.

and another with Coker.

Coker played great the last few games of the season, no doubt, but we won it all because of Henry.

We fell short with Simms

1. Sims was a pro style QB/passer
2. Our defense gave up 42 points in the game where "we fell short."

Hurts

Was a true freshman, and won SEC offensive player of the year. His passing stats were exceptional for a true freshman. Again, I don't think people truly realize how difficult it is for a true freshman to not only start in the SEC, but excel to the point of winning OPOTY. And passing is the absolute hardest part about that task. We don't even make it to the he playoffs without Hurts IMO.

As far as going back to the ground and pound offense, we were exactly that in 2015, and our rushing offense was the best it's ever been this past year. Saban isn't going to completely go away from pro style, we simply had a freshman QB so the coaches had to use the plays that would put him in the best positions to succeed.

I wish we could get the screen game back. Not just bubble screens.

I also wish we would target the TE more, but now we don't have that game changing te, and I doubt we will get one seeing how little OJ was involved in the receiving game this season.

This guy. I no this won't be popular here and I hope I am wrong but Saban may have made a bad decision. We could have won as many games last year with Bateman or Cornwell being a game manager and got by with a pro style running game. He has made a decision though and we will see where this "modern offense" leads us. Hurts will be even better next year so I feel good about it but I am old and stuck in my ways.

CNS never has really had two QB's ready to play anywhere he's been. Even when he's had two capable guys, the majority of the year he only played one. It hurts recruiting and player development. It's an NFL mindset.

With all the top recruiting classes we've had he should have at least 2 more national titles, maybe more.

He's had 1 undefeated season in his entire career, 2009 at BAMA.
