We finished the season against 4 top 10 defenses. We were largely forced to abandon a large part of wide game, which would soften up the middle of the defenses.

I'm also throwing this out there. I think the Auburn game scared Saban. We had started to open up the playbook, but we seemed to throw away like 80% of it after that game.

The bottom line is that, despite all the superlatives, Hurts currently doesn't possess the skill most closely associated with the position he's playing. All (I assume) of us believed that he would develop the ability to pass the ball, but it just never happened.

There is no hate. There is disappointment at what many see as a regression of that skill, rather than the improvement we all hoped for. This loss was destined to happen. If not for the defense, it probably would have happened three or four times.

Now we just wait and see how he improves in year 2.
