In NWA, every last person I know hikes the Goat Trail on the Buffalo, Yellow Rock trail at Devil's Den, and kayaks and canoes. Most of those people also cycle to some degree because it's so damned easy to do around here. Others get into mountain biking, again, because you can mountain bike 10 minutes from your house. We have enough mountain bike amenities that we hosted the IMBA World Summit last year.

Here's a good video demonstrating our "Colorado envy" and "inauthentic" mountain biking community:

What sets NWA apart and will into the future is the fact that many of those trails and amenities are inside city limits, and can be reached via the Greenway and city bike path systems. You don't have to drive anywhere to get downhill track. It's in your backyard. That is really unique for a city/metro with jobs, to also have stuff like that in town.

That video from Bikemag does a great job showing the crazy extent of trail development here. We were just talking about this today. Most people aren't aware that not only are Slaughter Pen, Coler, Blowing Springs, and Back40 within 10 minute drive of each other, but you can also easily pedal on trail between each of them. It's pretty awesome.

Speaking of: I've got to ride this weekend. Spent last Saturday, which was prime, at a wrestling tournament all day for my youngest and then rained all day Sunday. Looks like this weekend will be good, though. May have to ride Back40.

Edit: I actually think I'm going to do the Buffalo Headwaters Hoot and Holler downhill on Sunday.
