Because people are tired of Alabama?

Sports are meant to be an escape for us working folk who watch it for fun. There is no fun in watching the favorite go out and trash their opponents every game.

You say this, but people talk in high regards to the historical runs of many dynasties or powerful teams. At the time of its peaks, Miami was far far worse than what Alabama is today, and people hated them for it. As I've heard, Miami knew they were the "bad guys" and loved living up to that reputation. Yet now, people look back without real hatred (I'm completely neutral with Miami even though I was told as a kid how one of their players said before the 92 NCG that he faced a better defense than Alabama every day in practice) and just remember Miami was a juggernaut.

People see Oklahoma's crazy undefeated streak and think "wow" not "those scumbags".

People think of the Meyer and Tebow era of Florida in high regards. They were powerful, despite the constant talk of criminal activity with some of the players at the time.

Notre Dame has done many things in their history to give them the reputation of arrogance, yet their runs of dominance hold them in high regard. People associate Notre Dame with traditional power.

People think of USC and all the powerhouse teams they've had over the years. Sure they have a lot of fans that enjoy saying how everyone in the southeast is an incest hillbilly, and about a decade ago when they were just coming off a juggernaut run under Pete so many of their fans talked about the "inept offenses of the SEC." Yet when I think USC, I think major traditional power with a lot of prestige.

Ohio State and Michigan are hailed as one of the greatest rivalries because both teams have had juggernaut runs, especially when they've lined up.

People might hate Alabama right now and love to talk crap any chance they get, but in twenty years people will remember this run and talk of it to their children or just general talks on message boards. If Alabama can miraculously go out there and do really well against Clemson (I expect a really close scary game, but hopefully it's another Washington type game) in twenty years people will be saying "is team x as good as the 95 Nebraska, 01 Miami, or 16 Alabama?"

Historical runs are good for the tradition of the sport. If a different team in different conferences won the NC every year, few of them would be truly memorable for the entirety of the country.
