If we took him as an early enrollee, then he is 100% on the August scholarship role.
If we tell him that we don't have a spot in January but might have one in February (i.e. someone gets arrested or grad transfers), any smart kid/family is going to know that is also a maybe. We told him what we needed to in order for him to look elsewhere. And he/his family picked up what we were saying.
