I got banned from the Coaching Board, maybe I could have been more eloquent. However, my feeling was they never really had the money the fans thought they had. I will leave it at that.

That's not the issue, IMO. They were bidding on a coach who is very comfortable where he's at and has a lot of job security (Fisher) and on a coach whose dream job (through no fault of LSU or lack of opportunity on their part) was Texas (Herman). They could've been willing to pay $5M-$7M and it wouldn't have changed much in the search. Herman's not worth $7M and Fisher's not worth a 10 year contract.

I tend to agree with you.
People that have never managed budgets don't recognize that the money has to come from somewhere.

If 10 years at $6 mil/per was a real request, would it be responsible to commit to $60 million when there are already significant commitments on the books already, (Les and Cam's contract).

This was a fiscally sound decision, that allows for some debt to get off the books over the next 2 years. If it works out now, great. If not, there will be the money available at that point for big $ hire.

You got banned because you're ignorant. Lsu is one of if not the most PROFITABLE Athletic's department in the sec.

You're right, we NEVER pay for coaches......except for the fact that we had the highest paid staff in the sec for years.

The problem that arose is that Joe alleva is a sack of shite that didn't want to just come out and say that he WANTED CEO this whole time and never really was going to seriously look anywhere else.

All we can do as fans is get behind the man and hope like hell he can do an adequate job.

Let's not act like herman was a groundbreaking hire. He hasn't proven shite and neither has CEO.

The difference is if herman sucks we were stuck for 5 years and 30 to 40 million while CEO only 10 tops

It became a question of reasonable value it appears.

Fisher was floated a proposal that was way over what he is making even after you factor in state income taxes. Sexton started chiseling the offer evidently to get a bidding war with FSU or Jimbo eventually got to a decision point and said no - take your pick of endings there.

Herman had verbally agreed to deal with LSU. His agent, Trace Armstrong, was keeping prominent UT boosters involved on the sideline the whole time - hence the story leak during LSU game Thursday night. Herman backed out of verbal deal once UT lost and wanted to see offer from UT. UT could drive the price to anything they wanted - Alleva punted.

Orgeron accepted for much lower HC pay with provisions to pay superior $$ to superior OC/DC.

The bottom line issue here is latent risk. Fisher was not a big risk but wanted long term very high dollar money if he was even willing to come. Herman was going to take Saban money and was a much higher risk for that cost - but not for lesser cost of verbal agreed deal. LSU offered him more than UT from what it sounds (mid 5's allegedly).

Orgeron deal is a higher risk on performance side but is a low money risk because if he fails to meet objectives then the buyouts are reasonable if needed.

If Fisher or Herman failed the program was sunk for a while until buyouts were achievable.
