Look, I am at the end of my rope with Bert as many others seem to be as well, but firing him isn't going to do anything but set the program back.

What we need, is for Dumplin' to get rid of Smith and Segrest and lets see what happens for a season. The defensive cupboard is not totally bare and I refuse to accept that we do not have any talent on that side of the ball, like it has looked the last two seasons. There is blown assignments by good players all the time, but when a team gets gashed game after game, the only legitimate conclusion that can be made is that it is scheme and coaching.

While the DB's decided to get their asses burned the last week of the season, for the most part, there was marked improvement on that side of the ball with a new face coaching them. As a former player, there comes a point when even the players lose faith in the scheme and alignment they are running. It is a mindset. "You mean you are still lining us up like this even after we have given up 30 points in this exact same alignment" type of crap. It then becomes mental with kids and then you have completely lost them.

When our defense quit this year, I don't think they quit because they just wanted to quit, they quit because they had no faith in what they were told to do was going to work. If that makes sense. Yes, they are 18-23 year olds. They aren't stupid. They are game smart and they understand what works and what doesn't.

Go out, find a new DC or upgrade Rhoads to DC and find a new DL coach. With the improvement Ive seen from the DBs over the season, I wouldn't mind Rhoads getting his shot at DC, if he wants it.

If Rhoads doesn't want the DC spot, throw the bank at Jim Leavitt. He can defend the spread and he can defend the power run as well. Colorado is 13th overall in total defense(323), 13th in scoring defense(18), 33rd against the run(133.5), and 20th against the pass(187). We have got to have a DC who is proven on stopping spread, HUNH teams.

We can be pro style on offense all we want, but until we get a DC that can figure out how to stop Auburn, Alabama, aTm, Ole Miss, etc. type of offenses, we aren't going to win that many games. As a whole, the league will be mostly Spread, read option, HUNH type of teams going into next season. LSU likely only hired EdO because he said he would change offensive philosophy. This means you can add LSU to the mix of running some sort of read option, spread type of offense. Which, likely leaves only Arkansas and Georgia as the only true pro style type of offenses.

I agree. Oh the shine is off Bert, don't get me wrong, but firing him now does nothing but take a lot of money out of our pockets. Let us see what changes he makes in the defense for next year. If we roll out another craptacular defense then its time to find another HC.

Bert likes to gamble. Well next season he'd best play the cards he is dealt really well or the third season of Being Bret Bielema is going to be following him as he interviews for a new job.
