So then we hire the great John Chavis. The beast of a DC that was supposed to magically fix all woes. EVERYONE loved it. But it turns out the LSU fans who had grown weary of him may have been right about him getting a bit lazy and overly predictable. He's had his moments but I think it would be fair to say Chief has been a bust overall.

Is it the fact that he stopped being a good coach when he put on maroon? Or was he never a good coach who lucked out for a decade plus being a part of programs with amazing local defensive talent and awesome position coaches that Chief didn't hire?

Funny thing is we didn't have a better option. That off-season we wanted Boom but we all know he would have left in a year. I wanted Shoop but he has sucked at Tennessee. I don't know if there was a guy we could have hired that off-season that would have turned anything around.

I am not making excuses for Chief but you look at the top defenses in football and Texas teams just aren't very high on that list. We almost need to find a way to win without a defense which seems impossible in the SEC.

Makes you wish we would have built a decent but not amazing 95k stadium and dumped the rest into the basketball program where it can do some good. It feels so hopeless, like there is no fix.

Was always Bud Foster fan when we were looking for a DC. Wasn't upset at getting Chavis though.

From what I heard/remember, Foster wanted to come to A&M and looking back, we were just a nice landing spot for Chavis looking to get out of a bad situation as LSU. Hindsight...
