What is your Realistic Timeline for a Coaching Change?

Emphasis on realistic. I feel like Sumlin will get 2 more years. Only way he gets fired this year is if he loses in the Texas bowl (which implies an LSU loss as well). A loss to an in state recruiting rival in the post season would be the last straw for many. I just don't see us firing a 9-3 regular season coach. I get he is fools gold, but if we look at our last two coaches before Sumlin 9-3 doesn't look so bad. $15-$20 million is also a lot of money for this staff. The SEC is big boy football. Everyone said we would need 5-7 years to compete. It's been 5. I'm confident Sumlin won't ever get it done here (at least not in the Saban era). That still won't be enough to fire him though.

If he gets another year, he needs to be held to a ridiculous goal so either he leaves on his own this year, accomplishes it, or is fired.

Do you think he will get another year? Not should he, but will he?

Lol then why are you rooting for lolsu?

He gets one more year.
I'm just not hearing of ANY broad support for firing him among our big boosters.
He has a $15MM buyout due within 60 days of termination.
Plus, he has a winning record.
Next year, the buyout goes down, the buyout of his STAFF goes down, and since next year is guaranteed to be a disaster, we can point to that as sufficient cause and catch no media blowback.

By two years do you mean he's guaranteed to be our coach in 2018 too?
This is what is wrong with a lot of our fanbase

Because I want to know where our donors and decision makers truly stand after 3 straight 8-5 seasons and a 9-4/10-3 season gives them an out.

Don't we give LSU fans shite for the win the division or get fired mentality?
It's not that I'm content with 9-3. The question is "Is 9-3 good enough reason to fire someone?" The collapse was a depth problem. Sumlin has had depth issues since he got here. Do we give him a little more time to work that out or just say it's over?

We haven't finished above 500 in the SEC since 2012
Posted on 11/21/16 at 2:24 pm to AggieDub14
How about "don't get swept by the mouth breathing landmass or get fired" mentality.

Let's assume he gets 5-3 this year, is that not improvement? Best he has done without Johnny. I get it, it should have been 7-1. But the difference there is a moral victory. Nothing more.

I don't see how 9-3 should buy him two more seasons. One more year sure, but if we step back to 6-6 which is very likely he should not be retained.
I would also start wrapping your head around the fact that we aren't going 9-3

I know we are probably gonna lose Thanksgiving. I will still hope damnit! We probably aren't gonna win next year in BR, so god forbid I hope we avoid 7 losses in a row to LSU.
I don't think 9-3 buys him two more seasons, I just feel like he will string together enough wins next year to make it one more year after. $5 million less we have to spend on him. Hopefully we don't make the same mistake with our next contract.

I think Sumlin will walk. Unless he's ready to be done coaching, he can move on and not totally lose his shine.
Or he can drag this out until next year and nobly go down with his sinking ship, which I don't see him doing.
If I were him I would be angling for the Purdue job pretty hard.

We are not that lucky.

He won't do that for us. He wants his money and will still be able to get a decent job after next year

Here's a sobering thought:
Here is a list of all of the A&M coaches to get at least 6 years
D.X. Bible (11 total years) - 5 conference titles, 2 national titles
Homer Norton (14 years) - 3 conference titles, 1 national title
Gene Stallings (7 years) - 1 conference title
Emory Bellard (7 years) - 1 conference title
Jackie Sherrill (7 years) - 3 conference titles
R.C. Slocum (14 years) - 4 conference titles
With the exception of Homer Norton, each one of these coaches won either a conference or national title before year 5 (Norton won both in year 6).
Kevin Sumlin will likely be the only coach in A&M history with at least 6 seasons to fail to win a conference or a national title.

1 year. Having said that, our boosters would be stupid to not have some dirt on him by now to use when negotiating a buy out.
Having said that, I hope Aaron Moorehead and Terry Joseph are shown the door. They both can't seem to coach or recruit well. WRs should be doing twice as good as they are right now. No excuse for that, especially after his Twitter meltdown.

I agree on Moorehead. Dude embarrassed us on Twitter. Supposed to be a grown arse professional, and he is bickering like a high school girl on the internet.
Our WRs didn't have much of a passing QB though, so that certainly held them back.
Can't wait to become an insta fan of whatever team Reynolds goes to.
