He had success at LSU because of Alabama's probation and subsequent bad coaching hires.

No other program is able to have sustained dominance in the West without Alabama being down.

Alabama won the West more than half of the time in the 90s. Then the probation and bad coaching hires happened. When Bama finally came off probation there has been little margin for error for all other teams in the West.

The Alabama program has elevated Saban into the discussion of Greatest of All-time.

LSU is a good program with some resources, but Alabama is at an unattainable level by any other program.

What's your point? If he's at LSU he's not at Alabama, and Alabama got turned down by Rich Rodriguez before Saban became available. There's no telling who they would have had to resort to if Saban didn't fall into their laps. For all we know they could have hired another unimpressive coach like Franchione/Price/Dubose/Shula.
