Our parents gave us the money for our wedding. It was roughly 150 people in an Episcopal cathedral. We spent about $22,000, but the VAST majority of that was on liquor... and they still ran out of bourbon. We believe that since people came from out of town to celebrate with us, we owed it to them to get them good and blackout drunk. Our wedding was far from a lavish event (it was very nice, but not exorbitant), but shite like a photographer and venue for the reception add up. We also paid for the hotel rooms for family and wedding party, so that added to the cost.

The last three weddings I went to were all over 100k. These were all rich Dallas people, and the parents could easily afford it, and if they are will to pay, good on the people for providing a service and getting money. That's the American way... still doesn't mean I have to like it.
