He wasn't fired because of this year. Stop looking at it in a silo.
Well then it was pretty damn stupid to keep him for the beginning of this year then. If you've already made up your mind that you're going to fire him, then fire him before the year starts

Did you not pay attention last year? Alleva had every intention of firing Miles at the end of last season. It was the politicians and LSU's president that stepped in and saved him at the last minute. Even if Jimbo wasn't a possibility, I really believe he was still ready to move on. Look all the way back to his needlessly hard-nosed negotiating with Chavis, and then limiting Miles's budget for a replacement. In hindsight, I don't think those were accidents. He started down the road of getting rid of Miles at the beginning of 2015.
So if anyone deserves blame, it's all the idiots who stood in the way of what needed to be done. I will say that Alleva did make one really big mistake that hurt him. I don't think he realized what a media shite-storm would happen when he went public about Miles coaching for his job. That constant negative publicity for a solid two weeks is what killed everything. If he had kept it all quiet like UGA did, the resistance wouldn't have been there when the time came.
Who knows. Maybe we will end up getting a better coach out of the deal. The coaching market was pretty bare last year. Just ask USC and UGA.
