Yeah, frick the supreme law of the land, the benevolent government will *never* abuse power stupidly granted to it. Or maybe you missed the part of history where communist governments routinely declared people insane for no real reason.

And yes, we can give every psychopath or lunatic out there every possible weapon they can use. One, most aren't violent and wouldn't be a problem. Two, the ones that are wouldn't have very long careers in a society that hasn't been disarmed. If you allow people to protect themselves, they tend to do a pretty good job of it.
