I will preface this by saying I've never dated outside my race - I met my now husband of 21 years when we were freshmen in college, so I've never dated much period.

The only instance I can remember where I met someone who had a problem was a black woman.

We lived next to a black family - dad was a retired MLB player. They have 4 daughters and one son. We have one son and one daughter.

We were outside our houses shooting the shite and the mom asks my husband would he be okay with our daughter dating a black guy. I thought she was just fricking with him - she loves to do that. My husband replied as long as he treated my daughter with respect and wasn't a shithead, he doesn't care what color they are.

She was shocked! She said she would never be okay with one of her kids dating outside their race and would disown them if they actually married someone other than a black person.

They both grew up in the country but I was really surprised she had that attitude after living in the professional baseball world - which probably has more interracial couples than the real world the rest of us live in.

I looked at her and asked if she would really disown her son if he married our daughter. (She LOVES my daughter. Would have her over to play, even though all her kids were grown. Would take her shopping and to the movies, etc. Treated her like a granddaughter.)

She laughed and said she might be okay with that, but only if the white girl was my daughter.

It just really surprised me that anyone - white, black, red, yellow - would actually disown their child in this day and age over an interracial relationship.

It's hard enough to find a good man or woman - race shouldn't even factor into it.

Shiiiiiiiiiit, I'd leave my man right now if Idris Elba or Billy Brown came a calling.

Aggiebelle has a standing agreement with me to jump at the opportunity if she ever gets a shot at Shemar Moore or Clay Matthews

I wouldn't even be mad

I'd go gay for Elba.

And I'm one of those dudes that think gay is icky.
