Well, 5 p.m. today is probably too late to make any other arrangements. For that matter, this morning was probably too late. So, we're rolling the dice and hoping that Ben Hill Griffin will be ready to go on Saturday (or possibly Sunday or Monday, I guess?). If not, the game will be cancelled. I can't help but think that's just fine with Florida, although LSU certainly doesn't want it to happen.

Not to say these scenarios will play out, but in the unlikely event that both teams were to win out the rest of their SEC schedules, UF would be very likely to benefit from the cancellation of this game, while LSU would be more likely to be at a disadvantage. This is because of how the division races would likely go (assuming LSU and UF win out).

In the East, Florida needs Tennessee to lose two games and not to lose any games themselves. That formula works for them regardless of whether they play seven games or eight. If UT finishes 6-2, it doesn't matter whether UF is 6-1 or 7-1, UF still wins.

In the West, LSU only needs a loss by Auburn, which is virtually certain to happen, but only if we get to play the full eight games. Alabama (or Texas A&M, if they beat Alabama) will probably not lose any games (other than LSU, assuming LSU wins out), so they will finish 7-1. Although with a head to head win, LSU would hold the tiebreaker over both, we would need to play the full eight games to be able to force the tie. If we go 6-1 and beat them, but they go 7-1, then they would win the division despite our both having one loss and our having beaten them head to head.

So, the situation is that Florida gets no benefit from playing this game, even if they win it, and avoiding the chance of losing it is a big help to them. LSU needs to win the game and stands to lose the division even if it wins out if the game isn't played.

Now, given that, is it any surprise that LSU wants to take whatever steps are necessary to be sure the game is played, while Florida is happy to delay things until it's too late and let the game be cancelled?
