What Steve did was shitty. He obviously just quit giving a frick. The guy should have resigned when he quit caring. If I was a gamecock I would loathe what he did to the football program.

We're not happy about it but truth be known the blame should lie with Ray Tanner.

Spurrier wanted to retire after the Miami bowl win ... Tanner talked him out of it. Tanner was caught off guard as a new AD and wasn't ready, didn't have a contingency plan in place and had made no contacts within either the search community or the actual coaching community.

He used his friendship with Spurrier to convince him to stay - again, Spurrier's loyalty cost us.

I hold it against Tanner far more than Spurrier or any of his coaches.

There were some viable candidates that Tanner could have brought in after that win over Miami - but he was not prepared.

Would have been a whole lot easier signing a new coach ... like Herman for instance, after that 2014 season where we had won a ton of games over the previous five seasons, than waiting for us to take a nose dive and for Spurrier to bail out of desperation.

This. He wanted to retire in 2014 after we got crushed by Clemson and you could see the way the program was going. The bowl win against Miami was a perfect chance for him to go but his wife and Ray talked him out of it.

He then tried to convince himself and the fans that the team was going to be better than we all knew it was, and tried to force himself to get re energized. It didn't work and after the season started he realized he should have stuck with his guns and retired the previous year.
