You hire the guy with proven experience who learned his trade from a master within a winning program which is why we hired Kirby Smart. Smart was under Saban as an Assistant HC/DC for 8 years. During that time he won a Browles Award in 2009 and was Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012. He was part of 4 National Championships during his time at Alabama. In short, he knows what he is doing.

That is the hope... Still, as I said in my original post, we don't really know for sure what he can do because all we have to go on is his time in a program that consistently had top 3 talent nationally every year.

Looking at the Ole Miss game and most of all the Nicholls game, the expectation for a guy who learned his trade from the master is that we should have blown Nicholls out of the water and kept things closer with Ole Miss. I think that would be reasonable, even with the limitations of some parts of our roster (mediocre OL, lack of depth at DL, so-so WR's, freshman QB).

But I agree with those who are saying that 3 games into the first year of a rebuild with a new, 40-year-old coach is premature to draw any conclusion. I think Year 2 will tell it all: Eason will be a veteran QB and all these freshmen and sophomores who are playing now will only get better.
