Off the top of my head I figured the Arkansas 31-6 beatdown in '75 would be a good example. Aggies were 10-0 going in, ranked #2. They didn't get over that and got skunked by USC in the Liberty Bowl.
But not so fast. They went 10-2 again the next year, with a 27-3 win in Austin and 37-14 win over UF in the Sun Bowl. So maybe it's just me that was killed by that Arkansas loss.
