The new Defensive scheme has players and fans not happy, but this is the way it has to be.
Please understand my point...Defensive Coordinators overwhelmingly do not do well in their first HC job. They tend to really improve in the second job. Yes there are exceptions but im talking in general.
However there is 1 former DC who is thriving at a program that was an annual doormat...Patterson at TCU. When he got there he installed a high risk, high reward offense, that scored a lot of points and won games immediately. It also took the pressure off his defense while he taught the difficult gap read scheme.
Even though at first glance TCU looks like a big 12 all offense no defense team, they actually field a very good defense. So Patterson has thrived at his first HC job.
Since we all agree we want Odom to thrive at Mizzou, what better blueprint is there to follow? Let Lock and his receivers score points, big running backs move the chains, and the defense learns to run an proven effective scheme, all while winning games.

Some good tweets from Matter about 2013 defense.
quote:
A reader brought this up and stats confirmed: In 2013, Mizzou's defensive ends didn't have a sack until the 4th game of the season
quote:
Among Sam, Ealy, Ray & Golden, Sam had 1st sack in 4th game of 2013. Ealy, Golden 1st sacks in Game 5; Ray in Game 6
