Auburn will get killed in the media if they hire Briles. Auburn fans will scream about Sark, but he has a personal problem that got out of control. Briles oversaw a program that allowed sexual assault to be covered up. Huge difference that Auburn folks just don't understand. With hiring Pearl and now potentially Briles, the media will kill them and deservedly so.

First, lumping Pearl in with Briles makes zero sense. Acting like Pearl is some morally repugnant person is just laughable from a team that has Sark and Kiffen.

Second, Auburn people understand the deal on Briles. I want Briles influence, but I'm definitely concerned about the backlash in an environment where there is simply no opportunity to "explain" decisions. It's all optics, all 140 character conclusions.

Third, the Briles stuff is really weird. As I said on Saturday, the stuff out of Waco where it breaks down what really happened in the football program simply doesn't connect to Briles very much. And there isn't that much of it. But Briles doesn't seem inclined to shift the blame to the rest of Baylor (large majority of the incidents didn't have anything to do with football, apparently). I dislike Baylor and was someone who crucified Briles. But I have to admit, when I read the report, it was a ton of fluff. I just don't know what to believe.

If Gus needs Briles input then hire him solely on a consulting basis.

Then you bypass the PR nightmare of him walking around in a AU shirt & cap labeled as part of the staff. He doesn't have to sit in the booth to review/analyze the offense and consult Gus.
