The thing is Gus has always stuffed the stat line against inferior competition. He actually has the Auburn fanbase thinking Chris Todd was a good QB. The guy dominated against 5 nonconference cream puffs and was below average against SEC competition yet ask any Auburn fan and they point to Chris Todd as proof that Gus can be good with any QB. Racking up 700 yards offense is fine, but it was just Gus getting the Auburn faithful off his back against a woeful Arkansas State team that has now given up nearly 1,300 yards in their first two games.

Well first off, Chris Todd was a pretty terrible player the year before, yet under Malzahn he set school records in several passing categories and the offense that season was one of the best in school history up to that point. Secondly, that team lost some games that they probably shouldn't have, but West Virginia was a top 25 team that went 9-4. They also beat a top 25 Ole Miss team and the UGA and Bama games were decided by one possession late in the 4th quarter. The offense was the only reason that team won any games at all, as the defense was absolutely dreadful that year. The reason Auburn fans reference Chris Todd or Tulsa is to give past examples of Gus running successful offenses without a running QB, and that he used to be capable of building a system around the players he had.

Nothing you said however addresses the point, which is that we let one quarterback play the majority of the game and the offensive gameplan was functional and effective instead of a giant mindfrick like last week. That's all we really care about.
