Per Brice.

quote:

If Thomas' injury situation and performance doesn't improve, I'm told the move is Dylan Wiesman to center and Jack Jones to right guard and go from there.

quote:

Team source told me as late as 36 hours before kickoff it was "50-50" on Thomas playing, but they were worried on several aspects along the OL so he tried to go. Clearly wasn't healthy, and clearly not a good night for him.

Also, it looks like there were just dings coming out
of the game.

quote:

Staffers told me no injuries of note. I know there have been a couple of questions on Gaulden and Williams, but both players left the stadium last night without any signs of serious injury. They were scheduled to be in for treatment today.

This actually makes me feel better about his play and the OL as a whole.

Would explain that clip tDarrell posted where he got tossed aside like a rag doll. Can't imagine he looked good in practice if that's what he showed on the field though.

This is why I hate that they've cracked down so much on injury info. tho. I know it's to prevent teams from exploiting it and is a better policy than telling us ahead of time but at the same time I hate getting on a player and then finding out he's hurt.

Ankle is what I heard (but don't take my word there I could be wrong I'm still looking for an answer there). But it would make sense an ankle or leg injury explains quite a bit. Look at his stance here on the rag doll play:

Shifting around half the line mid-game wouldn't have made anything better imo, Thomas should have never been in the game to begin with if he was this affected by whatever ailment is troubling him

I am more than happy putting that mean motherfricker Jack Jones in the lineup if Thomas is questionable at all for Bristol.

Big big fan of that nasty SOB. He's got that dog in him

The backup may not have been ready enough to not be a liability even more than CT was. Replacing center isn't just about blocking and it ends up switching around two guys if you go with Wiesman instead of Jack Jones which is likeliest in that situation. A different center and likely a different guard in Jack Jones at guard.

Playcalling, cadence, control of the OL, the snap count and the snap itself -- everything is different with a new center and I'm not sure it wouldn't have made matters worse once it was realized. App St. still had the #11 ranked DL in the nation coming into game. Jashon was still getting pushed around too. You might've wound up taking the only guard who was playing decently away to put him in a position he's not really built for and made the entire interior worse.

We're fortunate this was a Thursday game since now we have extra time to get someone ready.

I love Jack Jones and would love to have him in at guard. I also think he could be a good center but I'm not sure how far along he is at that position. Weisman hasn't been great at center but the game I remember was against a very nasty Mizzou DL.

That would make sense. A healthy Coleman Thomas is easily one of our best guys on the OL. He looked way out of character

I just hope he heals up. We can probably handle VTech ok if he can't go and we don't need him at all for Ohio but we absolutely need him after that.

I agree. We need him back by the Florida game in a big way. If he is questionable for VT you've got to take a long look at letting him sit that game and Ohio if he can get back to 100%.

I know we were vanilla as hell and injured, but damn, I did not give App St. Defense enough credit either. They were stingy and very well coached
