To put this map in perspective. There are more smaller groups because the SPLC has sued the bigger groups and they have splintered. This happened in the 90's when they bankrupted the KKK.
Another interesting side fact is the SPLC said Ben Carsion was a racist and was put on their "watch list". (He has been removed)

The SPLC has incited more terrorist attacks than many of the groups they list as hate groups.
