It's not. It fricking sucks, to be honest.
ETA: About a month or so back we drove through Texas on our way to New Mexico. Let me tell ya...driving through West Texas is like driving through hell itself. Literally. It was like 100,000 degrees outside and the entire place looks like a barren wasteland. Just a terrible, awful, sad place.

The south has much better small towns.
The cities in Texas blow away any city in the south.
