Barring injury, this year's defense will be an improvement.

Why? I'm not trolling. I am curious. I realize you get Lawson back...but you got Lawson back last year, too. You got a worse DC and lost half your defense? (Is that correct?) If that is correct, why do you think your defense will be better?

I'm legitimately curious too.

On paper, it appears your defense got far worse. Lawson is back and is a great player.

However you severely downgraded the DC role, lost over half of your starters and lots of seniors, and lost well over half your production.

Why do you believe the defense should improve?

Hard to not be better. Defense started improving towards the end of last year in two main areas, secondary and DLine. Those two areas should be even better this year. From all accounts, DL has been very good so far in camp. Secondary returns a lot of experience, and if we can get solid play from our 2nd and 3rd corner, it can be a respectable unit.

We lost our LB production, but towards the end of the year, one was playing more DL anyways. LB production was one area that didn't really get better throughout the year, and was pretty poor most of the year. Athletically, LB's will be much better this year than last year, so that's a positive. We'll see how they perform though.

So, overall, considering there isn't much room for that defense to go but up, they should be better this year than last.
